Family Law Mediation

I am a Mediator and specialize in family law. I completed Certified Divorce and Family Mediation Training in 2017 and Introductory Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice training in 2021. I enjoy helping those who are uncoupling as well as helping navigate post-divorce issues that may arise. My goal is to support the conversation between people who are in conflict to come to resolution.

FAQs

How much do you charge?

I charge $160 per hour.

How many sessions of mediation are needed when a couple is divorcing?

The number of sessions needed varies with the number of issues to be resolved, their complexity, the degree of conflict between the parties, and the ability and willingness of the parties to negotiate in good faith and cooperate without strong emotions overwhelming the process.

Do attorneys have to be present?

No, you can chose to have your attorney present or not, that decision is completely up to you.

Will we leave mediation with a legally binding agreement?

No. If it’s requested, I will work with the parties to document all agreements made during mediation and that will be sent to all parties, but parties can change the agreements as they are not legally binding.

Is everything we talk about confidential?

Yes, however, I am a mandated reporter so there are some things that I would have to report if they came up during mediation, which includes child abuse and neglect and maltreatment of vulnerable adults. Outside of that, nothing said in mediation may be used against a person.

Are sessions in person right now?

No, all mediation sessions are held online until further notice.

What if I don’t want to be in the same “room” with the other person?

That is okay! Parties can be in separate “rooms” in the online platform and I’ll go in between rooms while we mediate.

We don’t get along, can you still help us?

Although many mediating couples are amicable and work well in mediation, there are also many couples who are very emotional about the divorce and don't think they can negotiate or compromise. I am highly trained and has extensive experience assisting parties with intense emotions to focus on the relevant issues. Rest assured that you will be accepted as you are; there will be no judgment or criticism and you will receive grounded professional assistance aimed at helping you succeed. My personal and professional experience has taught me that both emotions and conflict tend to diminish through the course of our work together. Professional guidance is often a key factor of success. As you progress through the process, you will likely come to understand why mediation is so successful at alleviating some of the non-monetary transactional costs of divorce.

Can a mediator act as our attorney or give legal advice?

I cannot act as either party’s attorney or give legal advice.
